About Us
Waterford Animal Welfare
Hi! Well, Waterford Animal Welfare has been alive and kicking for six months now and I guess there are several visitors to this site who have been thinking that we were a long time getting it set up! You know how it goes with volunteers - somehow the time is taken up with other things, like relocating to New Zealand . True, this really happened, hence the delay in putting something out there.
Andrew Quinn, our Chairperson and Welfare Officer, is a familiar sight in his animal ambulance throughout the county of Waterford and beyond and brings many years of experience to animal welfare. Andrew is a fireman with Green Watch at Waterford City Fire & Rescue Service and has been instrumental in rescuing many animals in this field of work. In his 'free' time he works tirelessly offering help and advice to other animal welfare groups, assisting the travelling community and arranging help for those who are taken into hospital and need someone to care for a much loved pet. Andrew positively loves going to schools with a couple of rescued dogs and giving a slide presentation followed by a lively question and answer session. Feel free to contact us if you think your school or group would like a visit.
Jenny Wills of Brighton R.S.P.C.A. has been working in animal welfare for the past twenty years, for the last twelve years she has been manager of the Brighton shelter and through her contacts we have been able to re-home many dogs in the U.K., especially those with a continuing need for veterinary care or particular needs. Many of Jenny's contacts have been most generous in helping us with the initial costs of setting up but of course there is an on-going need for funding for veterinary bills and specialist feeds for the animals when they are first rescued
Jenny Pym, Rachel Power and Kathy Cassin all have animals in their care. Some of these ladies may be known to you through their connections with other groups; for instance, Jenny Pym was associated with The Cat Protection League in the Dublin area.
Isabel Copeland-Eccles is our Secretary. She is a farmer's daughter from the south-west of England although she has lived in the sunny south-east of Ireland for several years! Isabel worked for many years with the vets. of a country-wide animal feedstuffs group with special emphasis on fertility, poisoning and soil deficiencies. She has bred and shown Boxer dogs but since moving to Ireland has specialised in greyhounds.
