News and Events
Micro-chipping pays off!  We were alerted to a pure bred Norwegian Elkhound that was running free in the Cork Road area of Waterford and for its own safety it was taken to our shelter.  We ran the machine over it and found that it had been micro- chipped.  Through this we were able to re-unite the dog with its owner.  The dog had been stolen five months previously from the family home in Galway.  To speed up the  process of re-uniting the pair we met up in Limerick for the hand over.  One very happy dog!

This is not an isolated case - in the last fortnight at least five other dogs have been re-united  with the owners because of micro-chipping.  With one case the owners were returning to the U.K. the following morning and had been devastated at the thought that their pet was lost.  In another instance a dog had been registered in Wales but the owners had moved to Ireland and were residing in Tramore - also mighty pleased to have the family pet returned.

We had received a call from an owner of a small boat that a dolphin was in some distress off Brownstown Head.  It was dragging a net with a flotation bouy attached and was unable to dive.  It  had become quite weak by the time it was reached by the R.N.L.I. and Tramore Sea Rescue after quite a search.  It was released from the net and following advice from Whale & Dolphin Watch Ireland it was deemed prudent to leave it at sea for recovery.

We were alerted by the Gardai of an animal at the Dungarvan Horse Fair that was in a pretty sad way.  It was seized and taken to a place of safety and is now making a full recovery.

An elderly dog of 15 years had been found in a tired and distressed state in a ditch at Ballinamona.  It was held in our care for two weeks and through an article in The News & Star it was re-united with its owner.

Pigeons, pigeons and more pigeons!!!!  We continue to assist in the rescue of racing pigeons.  Fifteen thousand were released from Tramore on the weekend of 20th July, and so far (three days later) numerous birds have been rescued all suffering the effects of dehydration.

Fundraising:
We are hoping to shortly give information of a quiz night which will be held somewhere in the city!  All a bit vague at the moment  but the information will be listed within the month.

We are also looking at the possibility of having a 'virtual' horse race night.  Could be fun!
